At a time when the trans members of the community are facing attacks from all sides and at all levels of government, the Human Rights Campaign conducted a survey in February 2026 and found that the vast majority of Americans actually support protecting the rights of transgender Americans.
Key statistics:
- 85% of Americans support equal rights and protections for transgender Americans
- 89% support equal access to healthcare
- 79% believe in workplace protections
- 83% support protections for transgender students (83%)
These encouraging statistics fly in the face of the laws being passed by state legislatures and voter initiatives in places like Colorado seeking to limit the rights or erase transgender folx. The exciting thing about these statistics is that a majority of all Americans support rights for transgender people. While the size of the majority might be a bit different, the survey showed that race, gender, and even political party did not change the fact that a majority of Americans support transgender people.
