DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the different ways queer communities have been represented throughout the history of Hollywood cinema. \nEach week we will analyze a different Hollywood film from different decades and the way they represented queer individuals. We’ll begin with an intro about the film’s production\, director\, stars\, and its cultural impact on queer and non-queer cinema\, then we’ll watch the film and finish off with a group discussion about our reactions. \nAll About Eve (1950) \nWritten and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz\, All About Eve was originally coded as a Cold War era cautionary tale about lesbians undermining and destabilizing the heteronormative structure of society. The film follows aging Broadway star Margo Channing and her obsessed fan Eve Harrington who would do anything it takes to become Margo. Since its release this film has been reclaimed by the queer community as a wonderful examination of the effects of repressed desire. Giving us famous lines such as “Buckle up your seatbelts\, it’s going to be a bumpy night.” With Oscar winning performances\, All About Eve is a must-see classic. \n138min. Not Rated
